Programme Overview

The MIC Ability Pathways (MAP) Project aims to provide a pathway to meaningful community engagement for people with intellectual disability, in an inclusive third level environment which has an established history of educational excellence and community inclusion. The project aims to provide education, training and meaningful employment opportunities for people with an intellectual disability who are committed to lifelong learning.
This project is funded by the HEA under the Path 4 Phase 2 access initiative. The MAP project will replace the CGLPD programme and operates in conjunction with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board as accreditation partners.

  • To develop social skills through peer interaction
  • To enhance individual employability
  • To develop full citizenship and self determination
  • To broaden horizons for individual learners 
  • To fulfil the personal educational interests of individuals

  • A belief in the capacity of individuals to self-actualise
  • A respect for the contribution and value of different types of student learners
  • A belief in the right of every individual to access third level education

The MIC Ability Pathways Programme (MAP) Project is about re-imagining and re-thinking education and learning outcomes for students with intellectual disabilities, by providing an opportunity to study in a third-level college.

Entry Requirements

Prospective entrants must:

  • Be 18 years of age on enrolment
  • Have been identified as having an intellectual disability from birth or early years
  • Have a commitment to ongoing learning and personal development
  • Have three or more Level 3 QQI Minor Awards (including Literacy and/or Communication components), or equivalent
  • Have not previously participated on or completed the CGLPD programme at MIC

How to Apply

Please attend our Open Night on May 29th at 7pm in Room T116 located in the Tara Building at MIC. All are welcome to attend.
